Today I’m reporting on my water ionizer comparisons of the Tyent Turbo water ionizer vs. the Chanson Miracle water ionizer.

The Chanson Miracle water ionizer is the high-end of the Chanson water ionizer models, and as you can see here it performs well in levels 3 and 4. It also gets a good acid water pH. The Tyent Turbo water ionizer, however performed well at almost all levels [neither ionizer performed well at level 1] and showed a better ORP per unit of pH than the Chanson Miracle water ionizer [which I personally feel is important]. So, I believe Tyent is the clear winner in today’s Water Ionizer Face-Off competition.

Here are the videos, charts and commentaries:

Note: St. Louis tap water today tested at 9.5 pH and +302 ORP.

Analysis of the Miracle’s Results: Levels 3 and 4 were fine for the Miracle were very good results for ORP, but the pH was high for drinking. At the drinking levels of pH for the Miracle I wasn’t able to get good ORP results. I actually repeated several tests of the Miracle on my own, for my own knowledge, worked with the Chanson technician extensively, and adjusted the settings to the maximum results for my water. I was still unable to get levels 1 and 2 of the Miracle to perform any better than this. Level 3 of the Miracle is close to the Tyent at level 3, although not quite as good of an ORP per unit of pH, and the Miracle’s good results at levels 3 and 4 made me believe that I could program the first two levels to perform better. Keep in mind that the St. Louis source water is a very high pH, so these results would most likely be much lower pH in your area. I say the Miracle at levels 1 and 2 wasn’t performing well, because it was not giving good stable medical quality negative ORP until it got up to about an 11 pH. [Again, consider the source water: in your area this may have been a 10 pH or lower] I tested this over and over on my own, and this is what I observed with all the tests. Most people at an 11 pH are using that for a de-greaser and not as their drinking level. Therefore the high ORP at that level is an indication of good electrolysis, but not useful information for ionized water drinking purposes for people with my source water. My earlier tests of the Chanson focused only on levels 3 and 4 in Laguna Hills, CA, http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/2009/11/17/chanson-water-ionizers-vs-the-melody-water-ionizer/ and so I really have nothing to compare these recent tests at levels 1 and 2 to. It’s possible I’m doing something wrong, and if I figure it out I will let you know.

How did the Tyent do? Well with the Tyent at level 2 you can see by the numbers in the chart above that you could drink at 10.4 pH and get a -755 ORP. And that’s with St. Louis source water! That’s great! Of course you would start out at the lower pH levels, but when you got up to this level you’d be all set with about the best ORP you could get for that level of pH.

This was part 3 of a series of water ionizer comparison tests that I am calling Water Ionizer Face-Off. So far I have compared…

* Background… Scientifically Comparing Water Ionizers: To scientifically compare water ionziers you need to understand the term, rH [relative Hydrogen], and how important it is to comparing water ionizers. You can’t always look at numbers and figure it out which one is the best ORP per unit of pH easily. Therefore it’s helpful to have a formula to help you do that. RH is simply a measure of negatively charged Hydrogen per unit of pH in your water.  The smaller the number [rH closer to zero], the better [healthier & more anti-oxidizing] the water is. On a scale from 0 to 42, above 28 is oxidizing (higher potential to damage the closer it gets to 40) and below 28 is reducing (anti-oxidizing)…the lower [closer to zero] the better. RH is the best measure of the healthiness of that ionized water.

The formula for rH is: rH = (ORP + 200) / 30 + 2 * pH

Water Ionizers: Comparison of Plates

Jul 29 · by Cathleen LoGrasso

How do the Water Ionizer Plates Compare with Each Other and Why Would You Compare Plates?

I stated in my last post: ultimately, the pH and ORP are the only real way you can judge how great your water ionizer is. But, what do the plates [platinum coated titanium electrodes] have to do with this?

There is a lot of wonder and even confusion about the differences among water ionizers in their design, size and manufacturing processes used in making their platinum/titanium electrode plates [which some people call the "heart" of every water ionizer]. Are they all safe? Yes — the ones I sell are all safe; I’ve checked them all out. Are they all as good as each other? No. Some are better, but it truly is hard to say which is better. I see the problem. Many people are claiming that a bigger plate size or more coatings and bakings of platinum are better. the bottom line is that you WILL ultimately see how good each company’s design is when you go to test them. I honestly believe all of the plate designs are good, because these water ionizers are giving great pH and ORP. Don’t believe scare tactics that the plates are coated with platinum then cut. This is not the case. They are all cut, slotted or meshed prior to coating with platinum. They all follow safety guidelines for water filtration and ionization in other words. So, don’t worry about that.

This blog post is devoted to describing the plate design for each of the major water ionizers. I have provided pictures wherever I had them available. If I get more pics in the future, I’ll add them then. I’m not claiming that any plate design is better, though, because they all look good, and all of these particular water ionizers get good pH and ORP for healthy, healing alkaline ionized water.

Chanson: Chanson plates are made of titanium and dipped twice and then sent to an oven for three separate times. They are each time nano plated, which means the platinum is broken down into smaller particles before plated. The end product is a far denser platinum coating than many other water ionizers. Chanson claims their plates hold up very well in hard water areas. Chanson also uses a process called fritting. Fritting creates a larger surface area for greater electrolysis. This is a picture of a microscopic section of a fritted Chanson electrode plate:

Life: Life water ionizers have a mesh plate on each end of the row of 5 solid plates [3"x5"]. Their mesh plates have a very large surface area, without compromising the quality and strength of the titanium. In other words they’re still solid enough to last far longer than I’m sure they even need to. They are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating of a minimum .25mm thickness. Life water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty. Life mesh plates are pictured below as the plate above the Tyent mesh plate.

Tyent: Tyent water ionizers have huge plates, possibly the largest plate size of all other water ionizers…even Enagic. The Tyent plate is pictured above under the Life mesh plate. The plates are placed at cross angles to each other to make a mesh as in the 2nd figure. Tyent’s electrode plates are slotted, then placed in such a way that a cross mesh is created when all plates are together in the water cell. A membrane is placed between each plate for proper spacing and to ensure that the two plates do not touch for superior ionization. The titanium slotted plates are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating. Tyent water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty.

Jupiter: The Athena has 5 mesh plates [3"x5"], and the Melody has 5 solid plates [3"x5"] with padding placed between for superior electrolysis. The plates are electro-coated by little machine-bots spraying the plates with electronically programmed-in peaks and valleys of platinum on the pre-cut mesh or solid plates prior to baking. This gives an even greater surface area and better electrolysis than what is possible with dipping.

KYK: KYK water ionizers are made with oversized cutting edge slotted titanium electrode plates which are dipped and baked for a superior coating.

Enagic: Enagic representatives boast of having the largest plate size of all. It seems they are mistaken, however… they do have very large plates. The plates are coated and baked properly with platinum coating. They claim the smooth plating process causes less hard water build-up of calcium attaching to the plates. That may or may not be the case, but if you get an Ionizer Armor  you shouldn’t have this problem anyway. I don’t have a pic of the plates, but am picturing the large water cell here:

Comparing Portable Water Ionizers [pHresh & Waterman]

May 01 · by Cathleen LoGrasso

The small, portable water ionizer filter/pitchers are a good idea. They don’t ionize the water as well (by far) as a regular undersink or countertop water ionizer would, but if you’re traveling, or away from home for more than 8 hours, you may run out of your ionized water. That’s where the portable water ionizer pitchers come in. There are two good ones (that I know of) and at some point I’ll buy them and test them. But right now, I’m just looking at the features they say they have and what-not and giving you the links to see the two products for yourself.
