Water Ionizers: Comparison of Plates

How do the Water Ionizer Plates Compare with Each Other and Why Would You Compare Plates?

I stated in my last post: ultimately, the pH and ORP are the only real way you can judge how great your water ionizer is. But, what do the plates [platinum coated titanium electrodes] have to do with this?

There is a lot of wonder and even confusion about the differences among water ionizers in their design, size and manufacturing processes used in making their platinum/titanium electrode plates [which some people call the "heart" of every water ionizer]. Are they all safe? Yes — the ones I sell are all safe; I’ve checked them all out. Are they all as good as each other? No. Some are better, but it truly is hard to say which is better. I see the problem. Many people are claiming that a bigger plate size or more coatings and bakings of platinum are better. the bottom line is that you WILL ultimately see how good each company’s design is when you go to test them. I honestly believe all of the plate designs are good, because these water ionizers are giving great pH and ORP. Don’t believe scare tactics that the plates are coated with platinum then cut. This is not the case. They are all cut, slotted or meshed prior to coating with platinum. They all follow safety guidelines for water filtration and ionization in other words. So, don’t worry about that.

This blog post is devoted to describing the plate design for each of the major water ionizers. I have provided pictures wherever I had them available. If I get more pics in the future, I’ll add them then. I’m not claiming that any plate design is better, though, because they all look good, and all of these particular water ionizers get good pH and ORP for healthy, healing alkaline ionized water.

Chanson: Chanson plates are made of titanium and dipped twice and then sent to an oven for three separate times. They are each time nano plated, which means the platinum is broken down into smaller particles before plated. The end product is a far denser platinum coating than many other water ionizers. Chanson claims their plates hold up very well in hard water areas. Chanson also uses a process called fritting. Fritting creates a larger surface area for greater electrolysis. This is a picture of a microscopic section of a fritted Chanson electrode plate:

Chanson Electrode Plates (Fritted)

Life: Life water ionizers have a mesh plate on each end of the row of 5 solid plates [3"x5"]. Their mesh plates have a very large surface area, without compromising the quality and strength of the titanium. In other words they’re still solid enough to last far longer than I’m sure they even need to. They are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating of a minimum .25mm thickness. Life water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty. Life mesh plates are pictured below as the plate above the Tyent mesh plate.

 Life and Tyent Mesh Plates

Tyent Mesh Plate

Tyent Slotted Plates Meshed

Tyent: Tyent water ionizers have huge plates, possibly the largest plate size of all other water ionizers…even Enagic. The Tyent plate is pictured above under the Life mesh plate. The plates are placed at cross angles to each other to make a mesh as in the 2nd figure. Tyent’s electrode plates are slotted, then placed in such a way that a cross mesh is created when all plates are together in the water cell. A membrane is placed between each plate for proper spacing and to ensure that the two plates do not touch for superior ionization. The titanium slotted plates are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating. Tyent water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty.

Jupiter: The Athena has 5 mesh plates [3"x5"], and the Melody has 5 solid plates [3"x5"] with padding placed between for superior electrolysis. The plates are electro-coated by little machine-bots spraying the plates with electronically programmed-in peaks and valleys of platinum on the pre-cut mesh or solid plates prior to baking. This gives an even greater surface area and better electrolysis than what is possible with dipping.

KYK: KYK water ionizers are made with oversized cutting edge slotted titanium electrode plates which are dipped and baked for a superior coating.

Enagic: Enagic representatives boast of having the largest plate size of all. It seems they are mistaken, however… they do have very large plates. The plates are coated and baked properly with platinum coating. They claim the smooth plating process causes less hard water build-up of calcium attaching to the plates. That may or may not be the case, but if you get an Ionizer Armor  you shouldn’t have this problem anyway. I don’t have a pic of the plates, but am picturing the large water cell here:

A Real Quick Look at the Major Strengths of the Tyent, KYK, Chanson, Melody, Athena, Enagic and Life Water Ionizers

I make it my business to really understand the features of every water ionizer I sell. All of the water ionizers I sell are great and produce fantastically healthy (filtered, ionized, great drinking pH and ORP, & micro-clustered for best absorption into your cells). Of course with all water ionizers you can add prefilters for specific things like hard water scale blocking, soft water remineralizing, fluoride, bacteria, lead, arsenic, etc, All of them are UL (safety) certified or meet the specifications & have pending certification. The biggest differences, then, are in the electrode plates (all are platinum/titanium but differ in design), filters, and SELF-CLEANING systems. I’ll highlight these where the water ionizer is exceptional in the feature. I didn’t mention it if the water ionizer was ordinary in that specific feature (filter, self-cleaning or electrode plate design). I also added a few other points in this article for each water ionizer that had a feature I thought users/buyers might be interested in.

Tyent MMP 7070 Water Ionizer: The Tyent Water Ionizer’s 7 large mesh plate design appears to be exceptional, especially since they stand behind it with a 20-year warranty on the plates! No one else has this kind of warranty. They also extend their 5-year water ionizer warranty to 10-years for very little cost (or if you buy it from me — no extra cost!) They also have a model that’s stainless steel (for a small extra cost — or if you buy it from me — no extra cost!) They also use SMS power instead of transformers, which is a more efficient, high-tech technology…and is needed in the Tyent water ionizer, because otherwise the unit would overheat I think. The Tyent water ionizers use variable voltage, so you can customize your water ionization, and I would caution you though to use this option with care, because jacking up the voltage too high for extended periods may wear out your water ionizer. However, that being said, they do offer a 20-year plate guarantee and an extended 10-year water ionizer full warranty as I said before. The Tyent MMP 7070 works well when hooked directly into the plumbing, so that makes your sink area more attractive, I think. It shouldn’t be placed under the sink, though, because it’s not designed for that. The Tyent company will include a Waterman Portable Ionizer Pitcher free of charge with every water ionizer purchase. Actually, if you order from me I will include this portable water-ionizer pitcher for free with any water ionizer I sell…just mention this article in the comment section of the order form or if you call your order in, just mention this article on the phone. By the way, this Waterman pitcher filters out fluoride too! Pretty good!

KYK 7-Plate Genesis Water Ionizer: The KYK Water Ionizer’s 7 large slotted plate design (like the Tyent) looks exceptional. They also have a better cleaning system (better than the Tyent, Life, Chanson and Enagic) in that they self clean the water cell AFTER each use, so as to keep the plates clean and not inconvenience the user. Another thing that’s about this water ionizer is the filter has an extra-long (50% more) life AND filters out the majority of the fluoride, which I think is exceptionally good. The KYK Genesis works well when hooked directly into the plumbing, so that makes your sink area more attractive, I think. It shouldn’t be placed under the sink, though, because it’s not designed for that. The KYK 7-Plate Genesis is also on sale right now.

Chanson Miracle & VS70 Water Ionizers: The Chanson water ionizers both have 7 large solid & grooved plates with adjustable amperage for customizing your ionized water with your source water (similar to the water ionizers above). The water ionizers’ filter system removes lead (but no mention of fluoride removal). There’s an extra opening in the water ionizer design to allow for things like adding extra calcium to boost pH when you have soft water, and occasionally adding something acidic like white vinegar to periodically give the plates an extra cleaning in the event you have hard water. The Chanson water ionizers also are much smaller than the other water ionizers, which I think makes them more attractive to people looking for a water ionizer that takes up less space in their kitchen. They will also extend their plate warrantee to 10 years for anyone who purchases the Protection Plus Ionizer Armor which is supposed to permanently keep the water (even hard water) from scaling up the plates. [I'd suggest anyone purchase this gadget -- it's only $82.00 plus shipping [and if you order any new water ionizer from me I'll throw it in for free if you mention this article in the "comment" section of the order form or call in the order & mention this article.]

Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer: The Jupiter Melody water ionizer is a very efficient design, because at it’s small price of $1395.00 it comes very close (if not beating) the bigger 7-plate models in the various pH/ORP/rH testing that’s out there. The Emco Tech researchers are PhDs (many of them) and from my observation are very good at the design end of making an efficient water ionizer for a better price. The Melody’s filter also uses Biostone (which is a mineral, tourmaline) that causes a FIR, far infrared, negative charge reaction just by passing the water through it. This means that just by filtering the water (with the unit unplugged) the water comes out with a negative ORP (similar to the portable water ionizer pitchers I sell). The ORP isn’t as good as when the water undergoes full ionization, but it gives the ionization process a boost. The thing I like best about the Melody water ionizer, though, is the exceptional self-cleaning design. It self-cleans after each use for the user’s convenience, plus it reverses the polarity mechanically after each use, so it never has a constant stream of alkaline over the same plates over and over. This alternate polarity with each use is very cleaver in my opinion, and contributes to the reason the Melody water ionizer continues to test well compared with other water ionizers even after many years of use. I want my water ionizer to maintain its high quality for the entire life of the water ionizer, so the self-cleaning design I think is very important.

Athena Water Ionizer: The Athena water ionizer has a self-cleaning system even more advanced and better than the Melody. Also, the Athena uses mesh plate technology (three of their 5 plates are mesh) and this is probably a big reason why the Athena comes out #1 winner in so many of the water ionizer comparison tests out there. Of all the water ionizers I sell, the Athena water ionizer is the best one overall when it comes to rH (overall water ionization quality) and predicted long-lasting consistent quality due to their exceptional self cleaning features.

Enagic Water Ionizer: The Enagic water ionizer (Kangen Water) is exceptional in their large expense. If someone wants to pay the highest price, for esteem reasons or to make money with their MLM, than this is the right choice. It has 7 large plates and uses almost as much voltage as the Tyent 7070’s new Turbo-Charge option. Other than that, the Enagic is not an exceptional water ionizer.

Life 7600 and 8100 Water Ionizers: The Life 7600 and 8100 are the same water ionizers, except the 8100 comes with an under-sink kit and electronic water faucet (with all the choices and complete operation) at the sink. It has 7 large plates, adjustable voltage and an option to get mesh plate technology added (for an extra $100.00) for better water ionization.

Comparing Portable Water Ionizers [pHresh & Waterman]

May 01 · by Cathleen LoGrasso

The small, portable water ionizer filter/pitchers are a good idea. They don’t ionize the water as well (by far) as a regular undersink or countertop water ionizer would, but if you’re traveling, or away from home for more than 8 hours, you may run out of your ionized water. That’s where the portable water ionizer pitchers come in. There are two good ones (that I know of) and at some point I’ll buy them and test them. But right now, I’m just looking at the features they say they have and what-not and giving you the links to see the two products for yourself.
