Tyent vs. Athena Water Ionizers

Oct 20 · by Cathleen LoGrasso

The Athena water ionizer and the Tyent Turbo water ionizer are both very high quality alkaline water ionizers.  I have tested these two great water ionizers against each other many, many times. Just this past week I did some more extensive water ionizer comparison testing, and you can see the videos and brief summary of each water ionizer’s performance verses the other below.  When it comes to choosing the best water ionizer for you and your family, who best to do the looking and deciding than YOU?

In any case, both of these water ionizers are far superior in performance than many other water ionizers on the market.  I say this based on personal tests and evaluations of water ionizers for many years.

Here are some of the general features of each water ionizer:

Tyent Water Ionizer vs. Athena Water Ionizer

Tyent Water Ionizers:

7070T Water Ionizer – The 7070 Turbo is the water ionizer we are testing in the video, below.  It is a 7 plate water ionizer.

9090T Water Ionizer – The 9090 Tyent Turbo water ionizer is the next step up from the 7070T water ionizer.  The main difference is that it is a 9 plate water ionizer.  It will get slightly better readings because of that. You can see an earlier blog post comparing the two main Tyent water ionizers [7070 vs 9090] here: http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/2010/12/18/is-the-new-nine-plate-water-ionizer-an-improvement-or-not/ .

9000T Water Ionizer – This is the under-sink version of the 9090T.  It will get very similar results as the 9090T.

Jupiter Water Ionizers:

Athena Water Ionizer – The Athena Water Ionizer is the top of the line water ionizer at the Jupiter company.  It has continuous cleaning (it cleans continuously, behind the scenes, with no wait time).  It also has mesh plates so it allows for more thoroughly ionized water (hence the great ORP ratings.) The Delphi water ionizer is essentially the same machine as the Athena water ionizer, save one filter port, but it is the under-sink version.

Melody/Isis Water Ionizer – The Melody/Isis water ionizer is the next step down from the Athena.  The cleaning system is very good, but it’s not continuous.  It reverses polarity [cleaning the plates thoroughly] with every use though, and this is done behind the scenes…so there is no wait time for the consumer.  It also gets pretty good ORP readings.  They aren’t as good as the Athena [because the plates are solid], but the pH and ORP are pretty impressive with the Melody/Isis water ionizer. Here’s an article that will demonstrate the quality that is typical of the Melody/Isis water ionizer: http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/2010/11/04/kyk-vs-jupiter-melody-water-ionizers

Venus Water Ionizer – This is the next step down.  It is a good machine and will get the range of pH.  However, the ORP readings are not as great as the Melody or Athena.

Below, I have included several videos and charts comparing the Athena Water Ionizer versus the Tyent 7070T Water Ionizer.  In all videos, I use a moderate flow rate for both water ionizers, between 1.5 and 2 liters per minute.  I try to eliminate the flow rate variable and keep both water ionizers at the same flow rate.

Test Number One

Athena

pH

ORP

Level 1 9.3 -737
Level 2 10.1 -770
Level 3 10.5 -787
Level 4 10.9 -800

Tyent

pH

ORP

Level 1 8.5 173
Level 2 9.8 -260
Level 3 10.6 -755
Low Acid 2.5 500

Test Number Two

In this video, I slowed down the flow rate for both water ionizers.  I also assured that the flow rate for both the Athena Water Ionizer and the Tyent Water Ionizer were the same before starting the testing.

Athena

pH

ORP

Level 1 10.4 -768
Level 2 10.7 -785
Level 3 11.1 -803
Level 4 11.3 -820
Low Acid 2.6 395

Tyent

pH

ORP

Level 1 9.8 20
Level 2 10.3 -69
Level 3 11.1 -811
Low Acid 2.3 380

Conclusion

The Athena Water Ionizer gets a really great ORP at all pH levels, even the lower level alkaline pHs!  The Tyent Water Ionizer doesn’t start to get good ORP until level three. The Tyent water ionizer gets a lower acid pH [2.3 vs. the Athena's 2.6 in St. Louis water]. The lower the acid water, the better the acidic water is for use as a germicidal cleaner [killing germs], although any pH lower than 4 will kill germs.

rH

There is another method to evaluate these test results.  We could measure the rH (relative hydrogen).  The formula is:

(ORP + 200)/30 + (2 x pH)

The closer the number is to zero the better.  The scale goes from 0 to 48.  If it is below 28 it is antioxidizing and if it is above 28 it is oxidizing.  The Athena water ionizer beats the Tyent water ionizer on this, but the Tyent water ionizer is still exceptional.

Tyent and Life water ionizer companies have now come out with 9-plate water ionizers. Is a 9-plate water ionizer better than a 7-plate water ionizer? It has been a long, long time since I’ve completely trusted what water ionizer companies say about themselves. Even when I think their water ionizers are great, I have found that all too many times the “facts” I am given by the companies, themselves, are exagerated. I do my own testing, because only then can I see for myself what really is the truth about any particular water ionizer. I did a series of tests on both the 7070 Tyent Turbo and the 9090 Tyent Turbo Extreme, to determine if the 9090 Turbo Extreme was actually better than the 7070 Turbo. My prediction was that there would be noticable differences and that those differences would be in the area of the ability of the 9-plate water ionizer to get a faster flow rate. However, what I found was…

There is negligible, if any difference between the performance of the two water ionizers.

Here are the videos… [Note: I was unable to test the 7070 Tyent Turbo directly against the 9090 Tyent Turbo Extreme, because I only had one set of filters. So, I tested each against the Athena...to improve the accuracy and reliability of the testing.

In this first video, I'm testing the Tyent 7070 Turbo water ionizer against the Jupiter Athena water ionizer.

In this 2nd video, I'm testing the Tyent 9090 Turbo Extreme water ionizer against the Jupiter Athena water ionizer.

In this 3rd video, I'm testing the Tyent 9090 Turbo Extreme water ionizer against the Athena water ionizer at a fast flow rate.

Analysis:

Based on the information in the videos, above, I have constructed some charts, below. My analysis is that the Athena and Tyent 7070 are fairly well tied, and so are the Athena and Tyent 9090 Turbo water ionizers. There is negligible difference between the outcome of the Tyent 7070 Turbo water ionizer and the Tyent 9090 Turbo Extreme water ionizer.

In some further testing [I'll have to find the video], I found the following: The Athena water ionizer’s performance fell off at the “Fast” flow rate [when it reached over a 2 liters per min.] The Tyent 9090 fell off too, but not as much. So, I suppose that if you were looking for a faster flowing water ionizer, it would be better to have the Tyent 9090. Here are the results:

So, what can be learned?

When it comes to water ionizers… Bigger is not necessarily better & more is not necessarily better either.

However, it is clear that all three of the water ionizers tested were of exceptional ability to ionize!

After over 16 years of drinking alkaline ionized water, I can say with conviction that the very best present I could give to myself or a loved one is a WATER IONIZER!  Give yourself the gift of health this year! And…

Today I’m reporting on my water ionizer comparisons of the Tyent Turbo water ionizer vs. the Chanson Miracle water ionizer.

The Chanson Miracle water ionizer is the high-end of the Chanson water ionizer models, and as you can see here it performs well in levels 3 and 4. It also gets a good acid water pH. The Tyent Turbo water ionizer, however performed well at almost all levels [neither ionizer performed well at level 1] and showed a better ORP per unit of pH than the Chanson Miracle water ionizer [which I personally feel is important]. So, I believe Tyent is the clear winner in today’s Water Ionizer Face-Off competition.

Here are the videos, charts and commentaries:

2.1 Better [for killing germs]

Note: St. Louis tap water today tested at 9.5 pH and +302 ORP.

Analysis of the Miracle’s Results: Levels 3 and 4 were fine for the Miracle were very good results for ORP, but the pH was high for drinking. At the drinking levels of pH for the Miracle I wasn’t able to get good ORP results. I actually repeated several tests of the Miracle on my own, for my own knowledge, worked with the Chanson technician extensively, and adjusted the settings to the maximum results for my water. I was still unable to get levels 1 and 2 of the Miracle to perform any better than this. Level 3 of the Miracle is close to the Tyent at level 3, although not quite as good of an ORP per unit of pH, and the Miracle’s good results at levels 3 and 4 made me believe that I could program the first two levels to perform better. Keep in mind that the St. Louis source water is a very high pH, so these results would most likely be much lower pH in your area. I say the Miracle at levels 1 and 2 wasn’t performing well, because it was not giving good stable medical quality negative ORP until it got up to about an 11 pH. [Again, consider the source water: in your area this may have been a 10 pH or lower] I tested this over and over on my own, and this is what I observed with all the tests. Most people at an 11 pH are using that for a de-greaser and not as their drinking level. Therefore the high ORP at that level is an indication of good electrolysis, but not useful information for ionized water drinking purposes for people with my source water. My earlier tests of the Chanson focused only on levels 3 and 4 in Laguna Hills, CA, http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/2009/11/17/chanson-water-ionizers-vs-the-melody-water-ionizer/ and so I really have nothing to compare these recent tests at levels 1 and 2 to. It’s possible I’m doing something wrong, and if I figure it out I will let you know.

How did the Tyent do? Well with the Tyent at level 2 you can see by the numbers in the chart above that you could drink at 10.4 pH and get a -755 ORP. And that’s with St. Louis source water! That’s great! Of course you would start out at the lower pH levels, but when you got up to this level you’d be all set with about the best ORP you could get for that level of pH.

This was part 3 of a series of water ionizer comparison tests that I am calling Water Ionizer Face-Off. So far I have compared…

* Background… Scientifically Comparing Water Ionizers: To scientifically compare water ionziers you need to understand the term, rH [relative Hydrogen], and how important it is to comparing water ionizers. You can’t always look at numbers and figure it out which one is the best ORP per unit of pH easily. Therefore it’s helpful to have a formula to help you do that. RH is simply a measure of negatively charged Hydrogen per unit of pH in your water.  The smaller the number [rH closer to zero], the better [healthier & more anti-oxidizing] the water is. On a scale from 0 to 42, above 28 is oxidizing (higher potential to damage the closer it gets to 40) and below 28 is reducing (anti-oxidizing)…the lower [closer to zero] the better. RH is the best measure of the healthiness of that ionized water.

The formula for rH is: rH = (ORP + 200) / 30 + 2 * pH

Not all water ionizer filters are alike!

Before you buy your water ionizer, you might want to see how its filter-changing steps are, compared with the other water ionizers. I’ve provided you with a water ionizer filter comparison video followed by some commentaries below.

This video shows how to remove and replace…

filters from the Tyent, KYK and Jupiter water ionizers.

Some Water Ionizer Filter Insights:

  • The easiest filter to replace was the Jupiter. You just pop it in and out.
  • The next easy one down would be the Tyent. You just unscrew/screw it. Although it takes a little coordination to get it started.
  • I didn’t show the Chanson in this video, but I did in an earlier blog post. It’s very similar to the Tyent in that it screws/unscrews.
  • The KYK is the most complicated. You need to carefully remove the computer chip from the top of the filter. Be careful, because the entire operation of the KYK will go awry if the filter chip isn’t reading correctly. You’ll just get an error message until you fix the problem.
    • Once the chip is out, turn the kyk 1/4 turn and then wiggle and pull till it’s out.
    • But watch out for the water. The filter is in upside-down and so water pours out as you are removing the filter. It would help to do this in or over the sink.

Water Ionizer Filters: There are Other Differences

I’ve included links to the information pages for each of the water ionizers’ above filter pages. There are differences in cost and in what the filters will filter out.

  • Athena Water Ionizer: The first filter [on the left] is usually a sediment filter: the Athena #1 Sediment Filter [49.95], and the right filter is either the Biostone .01 [89.] filter or the Biostone Plus [79.]. If you have a municipal water company supply and treat your water, then choose the Biostone Plus. If you use well-water, use the Biostone .01. I’ve seen people use two Biostone Plus filters. This would be for those people doubly concerned with chloramine and fluoride in their water. The Biostone Plus is the only filter to my knowledge that is specifically designed to filter out chloramine*. So this is definitely a “PLUS” for that filter!

*[Chlorine is an unstable element and because of that is very easy to filter out of water -- it bonds with the carbon in the cheap carbon-block filters and out it goes. Chloramine, on the other hand, is a stable compound of chlorine plus amonia (yuck!), and because of its stability it is difficult to filter out and special filter media must be used to get rid of it. Chloramine is a fairly recent compound being used by water treatment companies, and because it's far cheaper to use than chlorine...most municipalities these days are using it. Call the number on your water bill and ask them if they treat your water with chlorine...or look it up online by typing "water quality report" and your city/state [most municipalities post their water quality reports online now).]

  • KYK Water Ionizer: The KYK filter set costs $129.50 and filters out fluoride, heavy metals, chlorine, and more.
  • Tyent Water Ionizer: The Tyent filter set costs $85.00 and filters out chlorine, heavy metals and more.

I’ve been comparing the KYK and Tyent water ionizers in my home in St. Louis, but I had the opportunity to take these two water ionizers with me on a trip last week so was able to compare them in South Carolina [Hilton Head Island area] which has a much different source water.

The tap water in St. Louis is a pH of 10 and ORP of +350 [usually] and the tap water in South Carolina at my dad’s house was 7.76 pH and +412 ORP. The differences between these two source waters were so great that I was very curious…

Would my KYK and Tyent Water Ionizers do as well in So. Carolina as in St. Louis? and…

How would the KYK and Tyent Water Ionizers compare with each other using the South Carolina source water?

Here are the videos and the chart of water ionizer comparisons:

My analysis of this is:

The Tyent and KYK are practically identical, however the Tyent Turbo at every level was a tiny bit better than the KYK Genesis 7 Plate.

Other Notes:

  • They both performed fantastically! I was so impressed, especially since the source water was so much different than St. Louis!
  • The KYK required more button-pushing to operate.
  • They both shut off for cleaning [causing me to wait while they cleaned themselves] — not too much time was spent on this though.
  • They both went into auto self-cleaning when I turned on the power supply.

Which Water Ionizer is Best? How Do the Melody, KYK, Life, Enagic, Chanson and Tyent 7070 Water Ionizers Compare?

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to study and compare water ionizers for a long, long time now, and I’m going to share some insight with you along with my latest video comparing the Melody and Tyent 7070 water ionizers at the level 3 alkaline drinking water settings. I’ll follow this with comparing all the major water ionizers [briefly]: the Tyent, KYK, Melody, Athena, Chanson, Life, and Enagic.

For your benefit, I let the water ionizers flow for a minute or two before I started the video. I did this for three reasons: first I needed to get the water flow regulated so that the glasses were being filled at the same rate. This could impact the results, so I wanted to rule that out. Secondly I wanted to simulate frequent use and thirdly, I wanted to ensure that the level of water selected was in fact what was coming out of the water ionizer’s spout.

So here’s the video:

I flipped the tester back and forth to ensure my readings were correct and fairly stable. They were. The results are in the chart below. My interpretation of the results is this: these are both FANTASTIC WATER IONIZERS! Plain and simple. They are built differently, obviously, and by different companies, using different plates, different water cell designs, different power wattage, etc., however the designers must both be doing something right. The reason I say this is that the designers in both companies obviously know how to make water ionizers really well if they can get these results! These are far better results than I got with my old Japanese Ange water ionizer for 15 years. The differences in pH/ORP are negligible and the rH is slightly better in the Tyent, but really too close to really  say there’s much of a difference.

A similar thing happened to me when I compared the Melody and the Enagic water ionizers. Though they were built very differently, they were both obviously designed really well — because they tested out almost equal.

In video comparisons around the internet, I’ve noticed this about certain water ionizers that are often compared with each other [because they are evidently the most popular and reliably made water ionizers available in today's highly competitive water-ionizer market]: namely the Tyent, Life, Chanson, KYK, Melody and Athena water ionizers — they all test pretty close to each other in pH/ORP and when you do the rH calculation to determine the true healthiness of it…they really look close!

Well, that’s my take on it. Hope it helps!

There are several videos on You Tube with Rob Gray concluding that Tyent is the best water ionizer. Rob doesn’t list his web-store, and maybe he doesn’t have any affiliation. Rob tests several water ionizers and concludes that Tyent is the best in each of his several videos. The Tyent is a good water ionizer, but not better than the Athena, Melody or Life water ionizers. I’d say, it’s about the same, because it produces about an equal rH (relative Hydrogen, see below).  These are all great water ionizers!

I always appreciate knowing who I’m talking to, though, and what their stake is in it (if they’re proclaiming themselves to be objective they still have a reason they’re producing this video). Rob appears objective, but I wish he would tell us who he is (i.e. which water ionizers he sells and what the name of his webstore is).

In this video, Rob is obviously trying to show the Tyent as the winner, when in fact all three water ionizers in this video are winners. And, if you look at the rH (relative Hydrogen: the actual health value of the water [omitting the effect that jacking up the pH has on your test results), you see how close all the water ionizers in this test group came to each other. When compared with regular tap water as ranging between 32 and 38, the ionized water at a level of 21 rH is very good. Here’s the results:
