Today I compared two middle-priced water ionizers, the KYK water ionizer vs Jupiter Melody water ionizer. The KYK  water ionizer is programmable, so I set it to the highest possible settings. Even so, the KYK water ionizer still did not compare as well as the Jupiter Melody water ionizer, but they were close.

You can see the videos, followed by the charts and commentaries here. The first two videos are when I compared the two water ionizers prior to customizing the programmable settings. The results were poor for the KYK, so I reprogrammed it to be set at the highest possible settings for each level. Then the last two videos show the reprogramming followed by the 2nd set of tests.

Here are my comments about today’s water ionizer comparisons:

  • I’m ignoring the first set of results, because the programming of the KYK Generation II was not at the highest settings. But with the 2nd set of tests, the Melody still did better.
  • The Melody’s results for levels 1 and 2 were far better than the KYK and they had almost perfect ionized water results.
  • At Level 3 the KYK did a little better than the Melody at level 3, because the pH was at a more drinkable level. However, if you compared the Level 3 of the KYK with Level 2 of the Melody, you can see the ORP is almost identical with the Melody’s pH even more drinkable.
  • At Level 4 the difference of 1/10th of a pH point is neglegible, and both water ionizes’ high alkaline results were plenty high enough to emulsify oils.
  • The Melody had a slightly better low acidic pH, but both water ionizers’ low acid pH results were plenty low enough to kill germs.

This was part 5 of a series of water ionizer comparison tests that I have called Water Ionizer Face-Off. So far I have compared…

For now this is the last round of Alkaline Water Plus’s Water Ionizer Face-Off Competitions. I have gathered a lot of good information so far and that will have to do until I continue these Face-Off Competitions at some point after the holidays [or sooner if there seems to be a real need].

My overall rankings for the water ionizers compared based on the results in this 5-part Water Ionizer Face-Off Competition are:

Category #1: Best Water Ionizers [Jupiter Athena Water Ionizer, Tyent Turbo Water Ionizer, and Enagic LeveLuk SD 501 Kangen Water Ionizer]

Category #2: Better Water Ionizer [Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer]

Category #3: Good Water Ionizers [Chanson Miracle Water Ionizer and KYK Generation II Water Ionizer]

You can’t always look at numbers and figure it out which one is the best ORP per unit of pH easily. Therefore it’s helpful to have a formula to help you do that. RH is simply a measure of negatively charged Hydrogen per unit of pH in your water.  The smaller the number [rH closer to zero], the better [healthier & more anti-oxidizing] the water is. On a scale from 0 to 42, above 28 is oxidizing (higher potential to damage the closer it gets to 40) and below 28 is reducing (anti-oxidizing)…the lower [closer to zero] the better. Today I had the pleasure to test two great water ionizers, the Enagic $3800 Water ionizer [the SD 501] and the Jupiter Athena water ionizer.

The results were close, but the Athena was a bit better in levels 2 and 3 [which I feel are the most important levels, because they are the levels that most people drink at].

The Athena has a better design than the Enagic — more sophisticated and efficiently designed. Jupiter Athena is Jupiter’s highest-end water ionizer. It is a tried-and-true water ionizer design, that has been around for many years. It has come out top in many water ionizer comparison tests, including the ones done by Silver State Labs [an independent certified lab]. The filtration in the Athena is exceptional along with the internal self-cleaning system, called the DARC [double automatic reverse cleaning] cleaning system. The Athena also has a better warranty than the Enagic’s 5-Year Warranty.

Here are the videos, chart, and commentaries for today’s water ionizer comparisons:

Level 1  pH/ORP

10.5/-780  Better

9.7/+3

Level 2   pH/ORP/rH

Level 4   pH

11.4  Better [for emulsifying oils]

11.2

Acid   pH

2.8

2.5  Better [for killing germs faster]

Here are my comments about today’s water ionizer comparisons:

  • Enagic’s results at level 1 were higher, but the pH was too high for most people starting in at drinking ionized water.
  • The Athena’s ORP at level 2 was almost as good as the Enagic’s but with a far more drinkable pH. Same for level 3.
  • The Enagic had a slightly higher pH at the highest level [this was without the aid of any chemical], but both water ionizes’ high alkaline results were plenty high enough to emulsify oils.
  • The Athena had a slightly better low acidic pH [without the aid of chemicals], but both water ionizers’ low acid pH results were plenty low enough to kill germs.

Today I’m reporting on my water ionizer comparisons of the Tyent Turbo water ionizer vs. the Chanson Miracle water ionizer.

The Chanson Miracle water ionizer is the high-end of the Chanson water ionizer models, and as you can see here it performs well in levels 3 and 4. It also gets a good acid water pH. The Tyent Turbo water ionizer, however performed well at almost all levels [neither ionizer performed well at level 1] and showed a better ORP per unit of pH than the Chanson Miracle water ionizer [which I personally feel is important]. So, I believe Tyent is the clear winner in today’s Water Ionizer Face-Off competition.

Here are the videos, charts and commentaries:

Note: St. Louis tap water today tested at 9.5 pH and +302 ORP.

Analysis of the Miracle’s Results: Levels 3 and 4 were fine for the Miracle were very good results for ORP, but the pH was high for drinking. At the drinking levels of pH for the Miracle I wasn’t able to get good ORP results. I actually repeated several tests of the Miracle on my own, for my own knowledge, worked with the Chanson technician extensively, and adjusted the settings to the maximum results for my water. I was still unable to get levels 1 and 2 of the Miracle to perform any better than this. Level 3 of the Miracle is close to the Tyent at level 3, although not quite as good of an ORP per unit of pH, and the Miracle’s good results at levels 3 and 4 made me believe that I could program the first two levels to perform better. Keep in mind that the St. Louis source water is a very high pH, so these results would most likely be much lower pH in your area. I say the Miracle at levels 1 and 2 wasn’t performing well, because it was not giving good stable medical quality negative ORP until it got up to about an 11 pH. [Again, consider the source water: in your area this may have been a 10 pH or lower] I tested this over and over on my own, and this is what I observed with all the tests. Most people at an 11 pH are using that for a de-greaser and not as their drinking level. Therefore the high ORP at that level is an indication of good electrolysis, but not useful information for ionized water drinking purposes for people with my source water. My earlier tests of the Chanson focused only on levels 3 and 4 in Laguna Hills, CA, http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/2009/11/17/chanson-water-ionizers-vs-the-melody-water-ionizer/ and so I really have nothing to compare these recent tests at levels 1 and 2 to. It’s possible I’m doing something wrong, and if I figure it out I will let you know.

How did the Tyent do? Well with the Tyent at level 2 you can see by the numbers in the chart above that you could drink at 10.4 pH and get a -755 ORP. And that’s with St. Louis source water! That’s great! Of course you would start out at the lower pH levels, but when you got up to this level you’d be all set with about the best ORP you could get for that level of pH.

Today I compared the Jupiter Melody water ionizer against the Enagic LeveLuk SD 501 water ionizer!

What great water ionizer comparison results I got… and I’m sharing these results here in this article.  I am somewhat surprized that the Jupiter Melody water ionizer compares so well, although I have tested the Melody water ionizer against the Enagic Kangen machine before and got good water ionizer comparitive results then. It is a nice surprize all over again that these two very popular water ionizers compare this closely, because of the extreme price difference. Below, the results show it was nearly a tie. Level 3 drinking level of ionized water was particularly tied. You could barely get that close even if you tested a water ionizer against itself. The acidic water capabilities of the Enagic are better, but there is chemical added which in my eyes is not needed [The Enagic is able to get a stronger acidic water partially due to the solution that is added during the strong acid setting.] Personally, I don’t see anything too shabby about the 3.0 pH the Melody was able to get all by itself without the chemical. Anything under 4 pH kills germs…it just kills them faster the lower the pH. All-in-all I am very impressed with the Melody water ionizer while at the same time not unimpressed with the Enagic Kangen machine. What I’ve found with my water ionizer testing is that several water ionizers will give you these great results…and I’m thankful that they do!

Both water ionizers are well-made and function without difficulty. Both waters are pleasant tasting, although the filtration of the Jupiter water ionizers is far superior to the out-of-date Enagic’s filtration. The Jupiter Melody water ionizer also has a better system of self-cleaning in that it reverses polarity every time you turn the water on [versus every so many liters]. This is why the Melody water ionizer stays so squeaky-clean year after year. I’ve seen a 5-year-old Melody beat a brand new KYK water ionizer one time in a test series being conducted by the KYK main importer at the time. Both of the water ionizers use fine, highest quality materials and have exceptional customer service [although the warranty for the Melody is far superior ...with a lifetime warranty on parts]. And…

The Melody Water Ionizer is only $1595.00!

I’ve included the 2-part video here so you can see the tests yourself, verify the results are recorded correctly and verify that I had the water flow rate the same for both water ionizers. I also included pictures showing that the pH meter was callibrated ahead of time and the St. Louis tap water was 9.3 pH and +203 ORP just prior to the testing. I’ve also constructed a chart showing all the levels of water ionizer comparison, below the videos.

Alkaline Water Plus has a great water ionizer comparison competition planned for the next few weeks or months, which I am calling ”Water Ionizer Face-Off”. Water ionizers will compete with other water ionizers one-by-one. We’ll cycle through a variety of one-on-one water ionizer competitions so that each pair of water ionizers is eventually fully compared with each other. Hopefully the results will show a general idea of where each water ionizer stands in comparison with the others and this information will add to the general knowledge about these water ionizers. I won’t be testing water ionizers that I feel are poor in any way, which cuts out a lot of water ionizers. Just the fact that I’m including an ionizer in this competition means I think it’s a good and worthy water ionizer to begin with.

Why do these water ionizer comparisons at all?

First of all, I think these water ionizer comparisons are necessary to real information to light and dispel myths, and there are many, regarding what makes a water ionizer a great one. Since I’ve been drinking and benefiting from ionized water for 18 years, I have unshakable knowledge about the benefits of drinking ionized water. My whole family has benefited right before my very eyes with a 5-plate water ionizer [which isn't even being made anymore....but is still working after all these years]. Since more recently [in the past few years] I’ve tried better water ionizers, I’m now sold on the health benefits of spending more to get the best water ionizer. However the best water ionizer is not the one that costs the most or has the biggest plates or most watts of power necessarily. There are many factors which go into the overall design and effectiveness of a water ionizer. I honestly think that the biggest factor in the success of a water ionizer is the overall engineering design of that water ionizer. I’m not swayed by myths though, because what I’m looking for is results. The overall design of a water ionizer can be actually tested to see the results, and that’s what I do and why I do it. The best water ionizer in my eyes is the one which will give you the best negative ORP per unit of pH [especially at the level I drink]. If two water ionizers are about the same in that respect, then I look at other things [such as filtration, self-cleaning system, warranty and appearance]…but that’s for another time. What I’m doing now is testing them for pH and ORP at their various levels and calculating the ORP per unit of pH. I’ve tested all of these water ionizers before, but am testing them again more slowly, and closely this time, looking at the quality of ionized water at each level.

Today is Day #1 of the Water Ionizer Face-Off Competition, and our water ionizer contestants are…

The Tyent Turbo vs. the Enagic LeveLuk SD 501 Water Ionizers!

Here are the videos for today’s water ionizer comparison face-off round between the Tyent Turbo and the Enagic SD 501, followed by a chart and commentary about the results.

Water Ionizer Face-Off: Tyent Turbo vs. Enagic Kangen Water

Level  4

11.5 Better for emulsifying oils

Acid

2.4

1.9 BETTER, but irrelevant. Both will equally kill germs.

Here are my comments about round one of the water ionizer face-off:

  • These results, above, are really close. Both of these water ionizers are strong and capable, as you can see, with the great ionization shown in the chart and video. But I’m going to call this in favor of the Tyent. The reason I’m saying Tyent wins, is that at Level 3 [Kangen water 9.5], which is the most popular level for drinking, both ORPs are fantastic, but the Tyent’s pH is more drinkable.
  • Also at Level 2 [another "most popular" drinking level] the Tyent has a lower, more drinkable, pH and a fantastic, negative ORP.
  • The acid water for both water ionizers is low enough to kill germs on contact. So even though the Enagic comes in better for acidity at their lowest acid level it is almost irrelevant. 2.4 pH kills on contact. You can’t kill germs any faster than that unless you’re going to kill them before you spray them with the acid water [joke].
  • Level 1 is not too good on either water ionizer.

There are more to water ionizers than just pH and ORP. ORP, however is very beneficial if you can get a high ORP per unit of pH. I have personally seen spider veins dissappear right before my very eyes when I switched to a better [high-ORP] water ionizer. For this reason I personally believe that ORP is a very important factor of ionized water and should be looked at in comparing water ionizers.

Background:

Scientifically Comparing Water Ionizers: To scientifically compare water ionziers you need to understand the term, rH [relative Hydrogen], and how important it is to comparing water ionizers. You can’t always look at numbers and figure it out which one is the best ORP per unit of pH easily. Therefore it’s helpful to have a formula to help you do that. RH is simply a measure of negatively charged Hydrogen per unit of pH in your water.  The smaller the number [closer to zero], the better [healthier & more anti-oxidizing] the water is. On a scale from 0 to 42, above 28 is oxidizing (higher potential to damage the closer it gets to 40) and below 28 is reducing (anti-oxidizing)…the lower [closer to zero] the better. RH is the best measure of the healthiness of that ionized water.

The formula for rH is: rH = (ORP + 200) / 30 + 2 * pH

In my mind a water ionizer comparison website should be done by someone who isn’t biased, or who is as least biased as possible. Someone who has the capability and does sell a variety of brands is a good candidate. And, someone who knows what they’re talking about when it comes to all facets of water ionizers. Why? Because they don’t stand to profit by steering you away from any of the water ionizers they are comparing or reviewing.

One might think that an independent blog or review site that claimed or appeared to have nothing to gain from them sharing this information with you would be a better alternative. However, what I’ve found [and this is true...it's just the way it is] that no one does any kind of blog or review site for nothing. It just doesn’t happen. There is always an agenda, and it’s better for you if you know what their agenda is. Actually the person I trust the least is the one who I know is hiding something, or they’re acting like they’re doing all this work just out of the great goodness of their heart, so right up front I want to see if they clearly tell me who they are [especially if it appears they haven't divulged their agenda with their website].

Well what about website reviews…where the customer writes in how great they love their new ____ water ionizer? Again, this could all be staged, so I don’t completely trust reviews that are being placed on a website that is biased. Also, reviews in general are suspect.

Because I know a lot of the people doing the comparison sites [maybe not personally, I've seen their other websites and I know their agenda...most of them] I can see right through some of the trickery, and sometimes it’s just ignorance, however I’m sure the average person can’t possibly know whether or not to trust what any particular website claims.

I’ve gone through many water ionizer comparison and review sites, and have included all of the main ones here. The comments are just my honest impression of the trustworthiness or usefulness of the information on that website. If you feel I’ve not included one that’s a good one, please make a comment, below, and I’ll fix it. But I have done my best to select the main water ionizer comparison sites out there on the internet today and either expose them for who they are or just give you insight into their sites.

This is my website. I would be amiss if I didn’t include my own water ionizer comparison site first. I really do try to give the straight facts [which I include on a huge chart], test all of these water ionizers myself and add extra useful insights into the better water ionizers out there.

Rob is an affiliate of Tyent USA and KYK USA [used to be IonQuench], who are sister companies. Rob spends thousands of dollars every month to get his review site on the top advertized spot of Google. He pretends to be an independent review site, and hides the fact that he has something to gain by pushing Tyent and KYK [or before KYK, it was IonQuench]. His conclusions always favor Tyent first then KYK second. He focuses all of his comparisons on a few very old videos which I have analyzed and debunked on my “Compare Ionizers” page, above, long ago. The site is one of the four most contrived water ionizer comparison sites there are. He has no intention to give a real comparison of water ionizers, and it’s so devious the way he gives awards and prizes [for the benefit of unsuspecting customers who don't realize who he is] to brand new, untested water ionizers which are being sold by his affiliated companies. Then those companies turn around and make their claims of how they are obviously the best [based on the awards they received from Rob Gray's site]. It is a circle of deception…so avoid this site.

http://www.waterionizerreviews.org/category/compare

This is another one of the four most devious water ionizer review sites. It is owned by Earth Trade Water [the parent company to the Life Water Ionizer company]…who owns three [or maybe more] water ionizer review sites…all pretending to be independent. At the bottom of the site, they say they are Earth Trade Water, but most people don’t know that Earth Trade Water is the Life Ionizers Company. The phony comparisons are strewn with false information, and I advise to not trust any statements made by this company.

http://www.waterionizerexpert.com/store/how-to-buy-ionizer

Here is the second water ionizer review site owned by Earth Trade Water [AKA… Life Ionizers]. The site is too biased and inaccurate [out-of-date] to be of much value. Just like the site, above, the phony comparisons in this site are strewn with false information, and I advise to not trust any statements made by this company.

http://www.waterionizerreviews.org/category/compare

This is the third water ionizer review site which is owned by Earth Trade Water [the parent company to the Life Water Ionizer company]. The phony comparisons are strewn with false information, and I advise to not trust any statements made by this company.

http://www.waterionizerauthority.com

This is a water ionizer store and water ionizer comparison site, similar to Alkaline Water Plus. The owner, Romi Sink, obviously prefers the Tyent water ionizer to all others, but she appears to do this for simple honest reasons [i.e., she likes them best]. She likes the appearance. She likes the features, plates and power. She likes the slim design. She has good things to say about all of the water ionizers she sells though. The only ionizers she won’t sell are the Life Ionizers [and I can totally understand that and agree with that]. Romi doesn’t test and compare publicly like I do, and she doesn’t get into the science of it [i.e., water filtration issues and comparing the quality of ionization itself in the water ionizers]. She focuses on size and wattage [things like that] in doing her comparisons. She doesn’t show all the Jupiter and Enagic certifications, and so a customer would get the idea looking at her site that the Tyent had the most certifications [when that’s not the case]. She also doesn’t give the most up-to-date facts about the Jupiter models. So it’s clear she does not prefer Jupiter. [Also Note: Customers who order water ionizers from Romi will not get as good of a trial period as they could get with Alkaline Water Plus.] However, as a review site, she is not devious and doesn’t try to trick you, so I consider her site to be a pretty good one.

http://www.healingwatermachines.com/information/ionizer_reviews.php

This is an older review site and isn’t up-to-date. It’s done by the same people who own Chanson USA. The site is too out of date to be of much use.

http://www.chansonalkalinewater.com/water_ionizers_reviews.php

This is an older review site and isn’t up-to-date. It’s done by the same people who own Chanson USA. The site is too out of date to be of much use.

http://www.ionizerscompared.com

This comparison site is clearly pushing the Jupiter water ionizers. They appear to only sell Jupiter [as a company], so they have that as their agenda. The information is not updated for the Tyent and Life companies. The site is too biased and inaccurate [out-of-date] to be of much value.

http://www.ionizers.org/othermodels.html

This is a comparison site that is owned by the US importers for Jupiter water ionizers. It is out of date and clearly pushing their own products.

There is a way to know…

If the website you are viewing is actually an objective third party or another water ionizer company deceptively promoting their own products. Check out who owns the website. Most of them are listed here in this article with their owners. If you find a new website that is claiming to be objective, you can email me or you can find out who owns a website yourself by searching for them on the various “who-is” websites put out by the website hosting companies. Just type “who-is” in the search box and pick a site. Then search for the owner of that url by copying & pasting the url into their who-is search box. Please look for a real person’s name. Often a website is registered through an LLC or a third party, that is not a good sign. It probably means they are hiding something. An objective reviewer in my eyes will be one who clearly identifies to you who they are.

Yes, Whether they Know it or Not People Rate their Water Ionizers by Flow-Rate All the Time.

Here is the breakdown of fastest to slowest water ionizer flow-rates:

  1. Tyent 9090 water ionizers   3-8 liters per min.
  2. Enagic SD501water ionizers 3-4 liters per min.
  3. Tyent Turbo water ionizers 2-4 liters per min.
  4. KYK water ionizers 2-3 liters per min.
  5. Chanson water ionizers  2-3 liters per min.
  6. Jupiter water ionizers  1.5-2.5 liters per min.

It’s very, very tempting to think that faster is better, and in many ways it is. However there are some reasons to want a slower flow rate when it comes to ionizing your water.

Alkaline water ionizer will usually force you to slow down your speed of pouring water just enough to utilize your water filtration to the maximum effectiveness.

Why is Slowing Down the Flow Rate a Good Thing?

  • There are many things in the water today that weren’t even an issue years ago. For instance, most municipalities are switching over to Chloramine, which is Chlorine plus amonia, [rather than using just plain Chlorine] to control bacteria and fungus. However Chloramine is more stable than Chlorine and is much harder to filter out. To get Chloramine out you need to run your water through the activated carbon filter slowly. When you run your water through a water filter quickly, it doesn’t remove the Chloramine.
  • This is also true for pesticides, pharmaceuticals, or any other of the many contaminants that are in your water. Fast flow of water through any filters [except really large whole-house ones] does not filter the water very effectively.
  • A slower flow rater will also help to ionize your water more completely which will probably improve your ORP.

How do the water ionizer testers compare?

…and what are the best water ionizer comparison tests and testers out there?

Other than my own water ionizer comparison videos, one of the best water ionizer comparison videos ever put out was the following one from Silver State Laboratories in Nevada. It would be definitely nice if more labs did more testing and comparing of water ionizers. The results of the testing are certified and available at the following link: http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/uploaded/silverstatelabreport.pdf

What makes this a great video is the fact that it was done by certified water analysis lab technicians who were impartial to any of the water ionizers tested. What I don’t like about this series of water ionizer comparisons is the focus only on testing the highest levels of each water ionizer. The results of the comparisons in the video are shown in the following chart:

Here’s the video followed by a chart describing the results:

  pH ORP rH
Tap Water 7.42 +260.6 30.19
Athena Water Ionizer 10.54 -812 0.68  BEST
Melody Water Ionizer 10.47 -637 6.37
Tyent MMP 7070 9.47 -740 0.94   2nd
Life 7500 10.72 -164.7 Possibly a malfunctioning ionizer.
Enagic SD 501 9.46 -578.7 6.3

According to this series of tests, the two top water ionizers were The Athena and the Tyent 7070. The next best water ionizers were Enagic and Melody.  These tests are not unlike my own testing results when I do water ionizer comparisons. What is somewhat different about my water ionizer comparisons, though, is the fact that I never just focus on the highest setting of the ionizers. The highest settings are usually used just for cleaning purposes. That’s why when I do water ionizer comparisons I usually test all of the levels. Here are examples of water ionizer comparisons I’ve done, along with some that others have done. If you click on any of the links, below, it will open up in a new browser window, so you can look at two or more charts side-by-side:

http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/category/water-ionizer-comparisons/ [These water ionizer comparisons show the Jupiter Athena better than the Jupiter Melody in most levels.]

http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/2009/09/17/comparing-the-enagic-athena-melody-tyent-kyk-water-ionizers/ [This series of water ionizer comparisons shows that the Athena and Tyent Turbo are better than the Enagic in Levels of drinking water and in the extreme levels [for cleaning purposes] the Enagic did better than the other water ionizers.]

http://alkalinewaterplus.info/blog/2010/07/24/chanson-tyent-melodywater-ionizer-comparisons/ [These water ionizer comparisons were done by Ronnie Ruiz and show only the highest levels compared. The testing shows the VS70 beating the Enagic and the Enagic beating the Melody by a little bit.]

http://www.alkalinewaterplus.com/athena-tyent-life-water-ionizer-comparisons [This series of tests was done by Tyent's Rob Gray. He thinks the Tyent won the comparison testing, however his tests actually show that all three water ionizers came out about the same as each other at the only level he tested...which was the highest level of each water ionizer.]

http://www.alkalinewaterplus.com/aquarius-enagic-tyent-water-ionizer-comparisons [This is another series of water ionizer comparisons by Rob Gray. It shows that the three ionizers tested are too close to call....about the same quality level of pH and ORP at the highest levels for the water ionizers.]

I will look for other water ionizer comparison testers out there and include them in this blog post if and when I find some good ones, but so far, according to my calculations, I’m the best, most scientific and comprehensive water ionizer comparison tester so far. What’s better about my water ionizer comparisons is the thoroughness. I don’t mind other water ionizer comparison testers…I welcome them. They are all adding to the broad knowledge that’s being collected about alkaline ionized water and finding out which are the best water ionizers. Obviously many things could be improved about my videos, such as have a laboratory do the various tests and film them doing them. But that costs a lot of money to do, so it will have to wait for another day.

Both the Athena Water ionizer and the Melody Water Ionizer are two of my favorite water ionizers for many reasons.  But in this post I’m going to focus only on testing and comparing these two great water ionizers. I have compared them both in the past, but it’s been a while since I’ve done any water ionizer comparison testing. In the meantime my testing skills have gotten better as well as my overall knowledge, so when I had the opportunity to test these two great water ionizers up against each other today I took it.

The Athena and Melody Water Ionizer Thoroughly Tested in Every Way

To thoroughly compare the Melody water ionizer with the Athena water ionizer, I’ve done two complete sets of testing at every level: lowest acid level, plus levels 1, 2, 3, and 4. To see all of the testing, watch the following three water ionizer comparison videos, below, then read the charts and analysis that follows.

How to Compare Water Ionizer Testing Results:

There are two ways you can look at water ionizer comparisons. You can either just look at the numbers, and reason out which is the better water or you can apply a scientific formula to it to actually compare the two ionizers more scientifically. First I’m going to show you just how to look at the numbers and compare them. I’ll coach you through this:

Look at Level 3 for Test 1, below. See how the pH is 11 for both ionizers? Also notice that the ORP is hugely more negative for the Athena. That means that per level of pH the Athena is producing more ORP.

If you do further investigation you’ll see that the Athena is the better water ionizer for Levels 3 and 4 [the levels people usually drink at], while the Melody is better for Level 1. Level 2 is a draw.

Scientifically Comparing Water Ionizers:

To scientifically compare water ionziers you need to understand the term, rH [relative Hydrogen], and how important it is to comparing water ionizers. So many people would look at numbers, like the Test 1, Level 1 results, above, and say that 10.2/-422 was better. When in fact, the 9.4/-383 is really a little better. You just can’t look at those particular numbers and figure it out easily. Therefore it’s helpful to have a formula to help you do that. RH is simply a measure of negatively charged Hydrogen per unit of pH in your water.  The smaller the number [closer to zero], the better [healthier & more anti-oxidizing] the water is.

The formula for rH is: rH = (ORP + 200) / 30 + 2 * pH

On a scale from 0 to 42, above 28 is oxidizing (higher potential to damage the closer it gets to 40) and below 28 is reducing (anti-oxidizing)…the lower [closer to zero] the better. RH is the best measure of the healthiness of that ionized water.

Both water ionizers give you healthy water and perform well. They are both very hydrating and anti-oxidizing. The Athena is better at levels 3 and 4, which are the levels people mostly drink at, so the Athena is worth the extra money [in my opinion].

Normal tap water is the reverse, it’s oxidizing [up around an rH of 32]. Any water below an rH of 28 is good water to drink, healthy, hydrating, and anti-oxidizing.  You can read more about the history of rH at this link: http://h-minus-ion.vpinf.com/rH-score-1.html

I have calculated the rH of all test results, above, and show them in the following chart. The smaller the number [closer to zero] the better.  Anything below an rH of 10 is a fantastic result. Actually anything under an rH of 20 is very good. Take a look at what happens with the Athena results right around Level 3. The rH makes a significant leap in value [almost double]. That’s why I like to drink my ionized water from the Athena at Level 3. At first I just intuitively liked the water best at that level, but after scientifically analyzing it I can see the rH score is so much better too.

Both ionizers perform well though. They are both very hydrating and anti-oxidizing. Normal tap water is oxidizing [up around an rH of 32]. Any water below an rH of 28 is good water to drink, healthy, hydrating, and anti-oxidizing [including mountain spring water].  You can read more about the history of rH at this link: http://h-minus-ion.vpinf.com/rH-score-1.html
