As we get ready to end our year 2009 it’s time to celebrate some of the highlights. Looking back over the year, I think the best change for the water ionizer industry ever is the introduction of “Lifetime Warranties”. What that does is give you, the consumer, the confidence to know that if your water ionizer breaks down prematurely, due to some design flaw or something beyond your control, you are protected! That’s great security!
Here’s a breakdown of the water ionizer companies and their warranty improvements [or not] for the year 2009:
Jupiter Water Ionizers:
Started the year 2009 with 5-year warranties, but now have Lifetime Warrantees!
Life water ionizers started 2009 with 5-year warranties with an optional 10-year upgrade [and 20-year warranty on their plates], and are now also giving Lifetime Warranties [but only if you follow their reasonable guidelines for water ionizer care]
Tyent water ionizers started off with 5-year warranties. Tyent’s plates are now warrantied for 20 years, and Tyent gives the customer an option to purchase extended 10-year warranties.
KYK water ionizers
KYK water ionizer warranties haven’t changed, and KYK water ionizers are still covered by 5-Year Warrantees [but their prices have come down].
Enagic Water Ionizers
Enagic warranties haven’t changed, and Enagic [Kangen Water] water ionizers are still covered by 5-year warranties.
In this day and age when all of the water ionizer companies are competing with each other for your business, the consumers benefit. And these new warranties are an example of that.
Wishing You Water Wellness!

What are the conclusions? These are all three good water ionizers! I figured they’d all test out great. I already knew from watching Ronnie test the VS 70 that the Chanson acid water was going to test out so low. I’ve never seen the Miracle actually tested before, so this was nice to know that it gets such a great low-acid as well. A 3.0 acid level is fantastic in my eyes…and the other pH tester showed it down to about 2.7 on the VS70! At that low-acid level you could definitely kill germs. According to Nedalee the tests are in and the low-acid water from the Chanson water ionizers are killing staff and e-coli. The next test they’re going to do is for salmonella.
I was very happy for the experience of going to the Chanson water ionizer company! The Chanson company is new to the US, but they’ve been making water ionizers for a long time in Taiwan. They are state-of-the-art water ionizers and the compact size is quite an advantage if space is an issue for you. These tiny water ionizers have 7 plates in them and the power gets up to 150w [which is as high as it needs to get.]
I recorded these videos a week ago when I was getting ready to bring my Melody water ionizer to California with me [to give to one of my sons]. This series is a tribute to this fantastic water ionizer , the Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer, which my family and I have been enjoying for about the past year. I’ve decided to do one last series of comparison tests, because it may be a while before I get to test the Melody against the KYK, Athena and Tyent again. In this series, I’ve tested Level 3 and Level 4 of the Melody vs. Tyent water ionizers; the Melody vs. KYK water ionizers; and the Melody vs. Athena water ionizers. What’s amazing is how well the Melody has done in comparison with these other great water ionizers. The Melody @1495.00 is less expensive than the other three water ionizers AND has a lifetime warranty. It’s also made by one of the oldest & most trusted names in water ionizers…Jupiter! Also, no matter which is your personal choice of water ionizer …for a limited time, if you mention this blog post, I’ll give you $100.00 off your purchase price for a brand new Water Ionizer! Wow! What a bargain! Here are the videos:

As you can see [above] the Melody tests right up there with the more expensive water ionizers. I would not hesitate to recommend a Melody water ionizer to anyone looking for a great water ionizer. My personal opinion is that the Melody is better than the Enagic, and if I had the equal option to have and use either one, I’d choose the Melody!
Here are some interesting water ionizer comparisons that were all done about 8 months ago by Ronnie Ruiz. Ronnie states in the following introduction to the video series that all of the water ionizers come out very similar in their numbers [i.e., pH & ORP] and I believe that’s true, too, with my own testing and with the testing I’ve seen others do for the most part. I also agree with Ronnie that not all water ionizer companies are tried-and-true. So, just because a water ionizer gets good results in pH and ORP that shouldn’t be the only test of a good water ionizer. If you look at the bottom of this post you can find out more about the different water ionizer companies.
In the following three videos and chart you can see comparisons between the Melody, Chanson VS 70 and the Enagic water ionizers. These are all clearly good water ionizers — doing the job that water ionizers should do.
Comparing the Melody, Enagic and VS70 Water Ionizers
These are all good water ionizer results. Keep in mind that the ionized water drinking levels are not being tested here. The rH [Relative Hydrogen: Indicator of drinking water quality] is almost too close to call. On a scale of 0 to 42, an rH closest to 0 is the best. In the case of this test series that puts the VS70 as having a better drinking quality of water than the Enagic, but really the Melody, Enagic and VS70 are all exceptional in their drinking water quality. I wish that Ronnie would have thought to test the lower [drinking water] levels for each water ionizer he tested. [Note: I plan to visit LA in a few weeks, and I'll get a chance to do some big-major water ionizer comparison tests while I'm there...yipee! I've never had a chance to get my hands on a Chanson water ionizer yet, so this will be great!]
You can also see that the low-acid pH is very close between the Enagic and the VS70. The Melody’s low-acid is perfect for beauty water or watering plants, but I don’t know if it would kill germs. The Enagic and VS70 low-acid water would kill germs. The only thing with the Enagic, though, is that to get that low acid, you need to continually supply your ionizer with saline solution. That gets expensive, but then the Enagic is expensive, comparatively, anyway.
Ultimately, the stability of a water ionizer company can be seen in its certifications:

It is rare that you will ever see the Enagic water ionizer in a comparison water ionizer test. Most Enagic dealers are reluctant to even want to see comparison testing. So I feel priveledged to bring these videos to you.
We tested and compared the Enagic SD 501, the Melody, the Athena, the Tyent Turbo, & the KYK Genesis 7-Plate water ionizers!
Throughout this testing there was an overall trend toward the…
Enagic not having thebest quality of drinking water, but having a better ability to get the highest/lowest pH for non-drinking water [used for cleaning].
*See below for a good explanation of how the best quality of drinking water for water ionizers is determined.
I couldn’t test them all at once, so I split the testing up into two groups of three water ionizers. Each group was focused on testing two water ionizers against the Enagic [since I don't often get a chance to test the Enagic, I wanted to make sure all four of my water ionizers had a chance to be tested with the Enagic].
Group 1: The Enagic water ionizer, the Tyent Turbo water ionizer and the KYK water ionizer.
Group 2: The Enagic water ionizer, the Athena water ionizer, and the Melody water ionizer.
I’ve highlighted in red the winning water ionizer score from each group of tests. Please note: You can’t very well compare a water ionizer from group 1 to group 2, unfortunately, because of too many variables, but if you look at the Enagic as the focal point you can get an idea of how they compare.

Level 2: Please Note: Unfortunately the battery ran out at the end, so we tested Group 1 on Levels 2 and 1 off-video and have the results here. We were using a faster flow rate. As the testing went on, the Enagic would not accept slow flow rates and the voice would tell us to increase the flow rate. We increased it for the three we were testing at the time. You can see that flow rate makes a big difference in the outcome of the testing, and because of that we really can’t compare the ionizers using one flow rate with the ones using another. [Reference to video, above] How did you like that container I showed you at the end of that last video? I think I might start selling those on my website…they’re so cool!
If you have ever heard that Enagic, Kangen Water, stores better or longer than the other ionized water, I’d say this video debunks that.
Note: These water ionizer comparison tests were conducted in St. Peters, MO, which has a tap water which is 8.46 pH and +195 ORP *The rH of a solution is based on a formula applied to the pH and ORP to arrive at the relation between the level of ORP to the level of pH. It is the best measure of the healthiness of that ionized water. I always consider the rH to be the most important measure to look at in any water ionizer comparison test.
Here’s an example: if you have two water ionizers producing water at a pH of 9.5, and one has an ORP of -300 and the other has an ORP of -400, then the one with -400 is producing water at a healthier overall quality. Most people testing water ionizers don’t get the exact same pH readings for all the water ionizers tested. So the rH formula is necessary to really see which water ionizer is producing the healthier water. The formula is a very simple one, and anyone comparing water ionizers should look at the rH of the water at the drinking water levels if they are trying to figure out which water ionizer is best. Because ORP is a very tricky measure to get and ORP meters can vary from test to test [depending on how well or frequently they're cleaned, source water and other factors] it’s important to only compare the ORP or rH of water ionizers tested in one setting by the same tester. RH is measured on a scale of 0 to 42, with 0 being the healthiest and 42 the unhealthiest. Tap water in St. Louis is usually around 30 – 35 rH. Any water under 28 rH is considered “reducing” and so is healthy for you.
“The relative hydrogen scale was first proposed by Clark in 1923 to the scientific community (mostly inorganic chemists) as a means of measuring the true reducing power of hydrogen present in an aqueous solution…”* Go to this website to see this article and get a more thorough and scientific explanation of rH: http://h-minus-ion.vpinf.com/rH-score-1.html
In the following videos and chart I am comparing the Athena and Melody water ionizers. These water ionizers are both Jupiter water ionizers.
Jupiter is a well-known brand name for medical-grade water ionizers that you can trust for their quality and dependability.
The Jupiter Athena water ionizer is the high-end Jupiter model which has DARC cleaning [best internal self-cleaning of all of the water ionizers], mesh plates and dual filtration, and sells for $2095.00 verses the Melody water ionizer [the moderately priced Jupiter water ionizer, which cleans itself great, is electro-plated [solid plates which are platinum-coated with peaks and groves for greater surface area for better electrolysis], and sells for $1395.00]. The Melody often comes very close in water ionizer comparison tests, so I think it’s a great choice for anyone on a budget. The Lifetime Warranty makes either of these water ionizers an even sweeter deal!

Here’s my analysis: It looks like the Athena beats the Melody in every level for rH [water drinking healthiness per level of pH], but the Melody is testing very good. They are both producing very healthy water! I don’t think you could go wrong with purchacing either of these water ionizers.
The healthiness of the water is measured a few ways. I’ll explain:
The aging body tends to become more and more acidic as life goes on [especially if we eat junk food or have an acidic diet over a period of years]. For this reason, we need water which is alkaline, so we can replenish our buffers to ward against the tendancy toward acidity. Otherwise our cells have no way of getting rid of their toxins. So pH is a factor in the healthiness of water.
Water ionizers produce a high alkaline pH. Even the water ionizer I purchased 17 years ago produced a nice high pH. Of course you don’t need the extremely high pH [that some water ionizers produce] for drinking purposes. Drinking water at a moderately high pH can help alkalize your body and get rid of the acidic wastes that have built up in your cells.
Oxidation is also a factor in the health of one’s body. Like a cut apple that turns brown, our cells tend to become over oxidized. I don’t know if the cells turn brown or not, but damage of one kind or another [commonly referred to as free-radical damage] happens when the cells are oxidized. To combat the body’s tendancy toward free-radical damage, theoretically, one would consume antioxidants. A way to test the antioxidant quality of a liquid is to measure its ORP [Oxidation Reduction Potential]. The more negative the ORP, the better. Any ORP with a greater negativity than -300 is considered “medical grade” ORP.
My personal experience with drinking water that has a high negative ORP [between -300 and -600] is that things like wrinkles and spider veins reduce when you drink water that has a higher negative ORP. I’m sure that the ORP is good for other things as well; basically anything that you would take antioxidants for would benefit from the consumption of water with a high negative ORP.
The rH [relative Hydrogen] of a solution is based on a formula applied to the pH and ORP to arrive at the relation between the level of ORP to the level of pH.
According to the above videos and chart, these two water ionizers are too close to call in the ability to ionize the water at these three levels. I have to say I’m surprised at how well the Melody holds up in these tests with 7-plate water ionizers. This Melody is over 10 months old too…so you can see it’s staying really clean too.
I will do more testing in further posts, plus I will soon be comparing the KYK Genesis with the Tyent Turbo…so stay tuned!

Coming Soon! The New Jupiter Water Ionizer Lifetime Warrantee! Starts August 15, 2009!!!
I just found out that as of August 15th the Jupiter water ionizers will come standard with a LIFETIME WARRANTY! This is the best news I think I’ve had all year! Wow!!! This is big NEWS!!!
Let me explain why I think the Jupiter water ionizer company is able to do this:
The Jupiter Water Ionizer manufacturing and design company has been around for ages. It is the oldest existing company for making water ionizers. They have mastered the technology of making water ionizers, and do it very well. Their water ionizers are top-line work-horse water ionizers. The internal cleaning systems are triple good, because they reverse the polarity of the water cell with each use [in the Melody water ionizer] and every 15 seconds of use [in the Aquarius, Orion and Athena water ionizers], while at the same time you are never inconvenienced by having to wait while your water ionizer is doing an acid wash cycle.
Most water ionizers are designed to last for over 20 years. I’ve had my original Ange water ionizer for 17 years and it still ionizes water like a charm! It’s never even needed repair. I’m guessing that the Jupiter company has enough experience with very few returns, repairs, etc. over the many years that they have it calculated to not be too much of a risk to them to offer this.
The main reason why a water ionizer might break down is due to hard water damage. Jupiter is making it clear with this new lifetime warrantee that you, the consumer, are expected to take measures to prevent hard water damage. I recommend a simple magnetic natural hard water solution gadget which is called the Ionizer Armor. It will last indefinitely and is only $82,00. Even if you already have hard water scaling inside your water ionizer this Ionizer Armor will de-scale it!!! By the way magnets are a great and natural solution to hard water problems, and I recommend them for whole house water softening as well! Magnets are a much cheaper and HEALTHIER solution to your hard water problems! Beyond this, if you were to see signs of hard water scaling on your spout for instance…you would be expected to get a scale-block prefilter to prevent this. Those are very reasonable expectations, and only benefit you, the water ionizer consumer, because scaling reduces your pH and ORP over time…and good maintenance ensures you have the best ionized water always.
Another big reason a water ionizer might break down is because of being dropped or otherwise abused by the customer. The warrantee does not cover this kind of damage.
Of course another reason they are doing this, I’m sure, is to dominate the water ionizer sales market…and sell more water ionizers! The length of warrantee is certainly an issue for anyone wanting to make a big purchase like a water ionizer.
This lifetime warranty covers parts and labor for a full 5 years. Then after 5 years it covers parts forever and limited labor forever. Specifically, if the labor were to exceed $195.00, they would cover the excess for any given repair job. If at the time of the repair there were no available parts, due to the model no longer being made, they reserve the right to replace your water ionizer with a comparible one. Rest assured on this, the Jupiter company wants to keep all of their customers happy. IonLife right now has an A+ BBB rating, so I don’t anticipate any tricks related to warranty issues from them.
So that’s the big news of today, and I just couldn’t be more excited! The new warranty does not apply to water ionizers purchased before August 15th. If you purchased your water ionizer prior to this date, don’t be too sad. Your Jupiter water ionizer will probably never need repair anyway…especially if you properly care for it [see above].
If you want to pre-order a Jupiter Melody water ionizer or any other Jupiter water ionizer [order to be placed on the 15th] let me know. I have a special surprise for anyone pre-ordering their Jupiter water ionzer between now and August 13th! You’ll find out what it is when you call [1-888-420-1420].

Some water ionizers, like the Melody and Venus water ionizers and the Athena water ionizer can be installed under your sink with an undersink kit. The Water Ionizer Under Sink Kit comes with instructions and a diagram, but still and all some people will benefit from this video demonstration. Here’s the video:
Here is the diagram that is referred to in the video:
Which Water Ionizers can be Hooked into an Undersink Kit?
Some countertop water ionizers turn on and off by water pressure. If water is pushed through the water ionizer it turns on, otherwise they go to “sleep”. The Venus, Melody and Athena water ionizers are like this. Though those water ionizers are made for countertop use, they are perfectly able to be converted.
The Genesis and Tyent can’t be converted with an undersink kit, because to pour water out of them you need to first turn them on, then push a button on the water ionizer itself. This won’t work well with undersink installation. They can both be hooked into your main cold water line, though, so you can have extra freedom and attractiveness around your sink and faucet area.

How do the Water Ionizer Plates Compare with Each Other and Why Would You Compare Plates?
I stated in my last post: ultimately, the pH and ORP are the only real way you can judge how great your water ionizer is. But, what do the plates [platinum coated titanium electrodes] have to do with this?
There is a lot of wonder and even confusion about the differences among water ionizers in their design, size and manufacturing processes used in making their platinum/titanium electrode plates [which some people call the "heart" of every water ionizer]. Are they all safe? Yes — the ones I sell are all safe; I’ve checked them all out. Are they all as good as each other? No. Some are better, but it truly is hard to say which is better. I see the problem. Many people are claiming that a bigger plate size or more coatings and bakings of platinum are better. the bottom line is that you WILL ultimately see how good each company’s design is when you go to test them. I honestly believe all of the plate designs are good, because these water ionizers are giving great pH and ORP. Don’t believe scare tactics that the plates are coated with platinum then cut. This is not the case. They are all cut, slotted or meshed prior to coating with platinum. They all follow safety guidelines for water filtration and ionization in other words. So, don’t worry about that.
This blog post is devoted to describing the plate design for each of the major water ionizers. I have provided pictures wherever I had them available. If I get more pics in the future, I’ll add them then. I’m not claiming that any plate design is better, though, because they all look good, and all of these particular water ionizers get good pH and ORP for healthy, healing alkaline ionized water.
Chanson: Chanson plates are made of titanium and dipped twice and then sent to an oven for three separate times. They are each time nano plated, which means the platinum is broken down into smaller particles before plated. The end product is a far denser platinum coating than many other water ionizers. Chanson claims their plates hold up very well in hard water areas. Chanson also uses a process called fritting. Fritting creates a larger surface area for greater electrolysis. This is a picture of a microscopic section of a fritted Chanson electrode plate:
Life: Life water ionizers have a mesh plate on each end of the row of 5 solid plates [3"x5"]. Their mesh plates have a very large surface area, without compromising the quality and strength of the titanium. In other words they’re still solid enough to last far longer than I’m sure they even need to. They are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating of a minimum .25mm thickness. Life water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty. Life mesh plates are pictured below as the plate above the Tyent mesh plate.
Tyent: Tyent water ionizers have huge plates, possibly the largest plate size of all other water ionizers…even Enagic. The Tyent plate is pictured above under the Life mesh plate. The plates are placed at cross angles to each other to make a mesh as in the 2nd figure. Tyent’s electrode plates are slotted, then placed in such a way that a cross mesh is created when all plates are together in the water cell. A membrane is placed between each plate for proper spacing and to ensure that the two plates do not touch for superior ionization. The titanium slotted plates are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating. Tyent water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty.
Jupiter: The Athena has 5 mesh plates [3"x5"], and the Melody has 5 solid plates [3"x5"] with padding placed between for superior electrolysis. The plates are electro-coated by little machine-bots spraying the plates with electronically programmed-in peaks and valleys of platinum on the pre-cut mesh or solid plates prior to baking. This gives an even greater surface area and better electrolysis than what is possible with dipping.
KYK: KYK water ionizers are made with oversized cutting edge slotted titanium electrode plates which are dipped and baked for a superior coating.
Enagic: Enagic representatives boast of having the largest plate size of all. It seems they are mistaken, however… they do have very large plates. The plates are coated and baked properly with platinum coating. They claim the smooth plating process causes less hard water build-up of calcium attaching to the plates. That may or may not be the case, but if you get an Ionizer Armor you shouldn’t have this problem anyway. I don’t have a pic of the plates, but am picturing the large water cell here:
