Some water ionizers, like the Melody and Venus water ionizers and the Athena water ionizer can be installed under your sink with an undersink kit. The Water Ionizer Under Sink Kit comes with instructions and a diagram, but still and all some people will benefit from this video demonstration.  Here’s the video:

Which Water Ionizers can be Hooked into an Undersink Kit?

Some countertop water ionizers turn on and off by water pressure. If water is pushed through the water ionizer it turns on, otherwise they go to “sleep”. The Venus, Melody and Athena water ionizers are like this. Though those water ionizers are made for countertop use, they are perfectly able to be converted.

The Genesis and Tyent can’t be converted with an undersink kit, because to pour water out of them you need to first turn them on, then push a button on the water ionizer itself. This won’t work well with undersink installation. They can both be hooked into your main cold water line, though, so you can have extra freedom and attractiveness around your sink and faucet area.

How do the Water Ionizer Plates Compare with Each Other and Why Would You Compare Plates?

I stated in my last post: ultimately, the pH and ORP are the only real way you can judge how great your water ionizer is. But, what do the plates [platinum coated titanium electrodes] have to do with this?  

There is a lot of wonder and even confusion about the differences among water ionizers in their design, size and manufacturing processes used in making their platinum/titanium electrode plates [which some people call the "heart" of every water ionizer]. Are they all safe? Yes — the ones I sell are all safe; I’ve checked them all out. Are they all as good as each other? No. Some are better, but it truly is hard to say which is better. I see the problem. Many people are claiming that a bigger plate size or more coatings and bakings of platinum are better. the bottom line is that you WILL ultimately see how good each company’s design is when you go to test them. I honestly believe all of the plate designs are good, because these water ionizers are giving great pH and ORP. Don’t believe scare tactics that the plates are coated with platinum then cut. This is not the case. They are all cut, slotted or meshed prior to coating with platinum. They all follow safety guidelines for water filtration and ionization in other words. So, don’t worry about that. 

This blog post is devoted to describing the plate design for each of the major water ionizers. I have provided pictures wherever I had them available. If I get more pics in the future, I’ll add them then. I’m not claiming that any plate design is better, though, because they all look good, and all of these particular water ionizers get good pH and ORP for healthy, healing alkaline ionized water.

Chanson: Chanson plates are made of titanium and dipped twice and then sent to an oven for three separate times. They are each time nano plated, which means the platinum is broken down into smaller particles before plated. The end product is a far denser platinum coating than many other water ionizers. Chanson claims their plates hold up very well in hard water areas. Chanson also uses a process called fritting. Fritting creates a larger surface area for greater electrolysis. This is a picture of a microscopic section of a fritted Chanson electrode plate:

Life: Life water ionizers have a mesh plate on each end of the row of 5 solid plates [3"x5"]. Their mesh plates have a very large surface area, without compromising the quality and strength of the titanium. In other words they’re still solid enough to last far longer than I’m sure they even need to. They are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating of a minimum .25mm thickness. Life water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty. Life mesh plates are pictured below as the plate above the Tyent mesh plate.

Tyent: Tyent water ionizers have huge plates, possibly the largest plate size of all other water ionizers…even Enagic. The Tyent plate is pictured above under the Life mesh plate. The plates are placed at cross angles to each other to make a mesh as in the 2nd figure. Tyent’s electrode plates are slotted, then placed in such a way that a cross mesh is created when all plates are together in the water cell. A membrane is placed between each plate for proper spacing and to ensure that the two plates do not touch for superior ionization. The titanium slotted plates are dipped and baked twice for a superior coating. Tyent water ionizers now have a 20-year plate warranty.

Jupiter: The Athena has 5 mesh plates [3"x5"], and the Melody has 5 solid plates [3"x5"] with padding placed between for superior electrolysis. The plates are electro-coated by little machine-bots spraying the plates with electronically programmed-in peaks and valleys of platinum on the pre-cut mesh or solid plates prior to baking. This gives an even greater surface area and better electrolysis than what is possible with dipping.

KYK: KYK water ionizers are made with oversized cutting edge slotted titanium electrode plates which are dipped and baked for a superior coating.

Enagic: Enagic representatives boast of having the largest plate size of all. It seems they are mistaken, however… they do have very large plates. The plates are coated and baked properly with platinum coating. They claim the smooth plating process causes less hard water build-up of calcium attaching to the plates. That may or may not be the case, but if you get an Ionizer Armor  you shouldn’t have this problem anyway. I don’t have a pic of the plates, but am picturing the large water cell here:

What are water ionizer prefilters, how do you use them, and why would you use a water ionizer prefilter?

In this video I explain and demonstrate the water ionizer prefilter. Water ionizer prefilters can be found on my Other Products page. Most people don’t realize that water ionizer prefilters can be benefitial to your health, and your water ionizer’s health. This demonstration shows you an up-close look at a single housing with a prefilter inside. Here’s the video:

Water ionizer prefilters are beneficial to health, because they can filter out specific toxins you are concerned about in your source water. One particular element in most US municipal source water is fluoride. You can learn about fluoride and its harmful health effects in my blog posts about fluoride. Many professional water experts recommend the H3 Triple Housing Filter Set for city water with fluoride.

Well water users can benefit from specific prefilters sometimes if their well has some toxic element in it. An example may be arsenic or lead. While your regular water ionizer filter gets most of the bad stuff out of your water, it may not get all. Most water ionizer filters don’t get all the arsenic out. Therefore, if you have arsenic in your source water in significant amounts, you can benefit your health by choosing a specific prefilter to plug into your water input line which will get the arsenic out. Another popular reason to use a prefilter with your water ionizer is if you live in an area that has either very hard or very soft water. With very hard water there are scale-block prefilters that can remove some of the hard water elements from your water prior to it entering and potentially damaging your water ionizer. [Please note there are two other products that can help with hard water, the Ionizer Armor, and the EOS Anti-Scaling Device.] With very soft water or RO (reverse osmosis) there are remineralizer cartridges [containing calcite, coral calcium and 70+ organic trace minerals] that can be placed in your prefilter housing.

One more reason some people use prefilters is to save the life of their water ionizer filter. You can get a very inexpensive carbon block prefilter, which will get a lot of the junk out of your water prior to even entering your water ionizer. This will put less wear and tear on your Biostone or other more expensive main water ionizer filter…and allow you to use it for up to 50% more than without using prefilter(s).

Most prefilters last a very long time, usually 1500 gallons or more, and cost very little. So, prefiltering is often not just a healthy choice, but also an economical choice.

What is the Water Ionizer Armor, and how will it SAVE YOUR WATER IONIZER?

Why did I buy a Water Ionizer Armor if my Melody Water Ionizer cleans itself so well?

My Melody Water Ionizer does clean itself really, really well [as I've described on many other blogs], but that cleaning is going on inside the water cell. There are lots of other parts inside every water ionizer that could be affected by scale build-up. The spout is one example. I plan to have my water ionizer for 20 or so years and all that time I want my water ionizer to be as healthy as I am!

Ultimately, the pH and ORP are the only real way you can judge how great your water ionizer is. But, to this I would add that over time, the pH and ORP should also stay consistent with when you bought it. Will Water Ionizers Work with Soft Water?

I would usually say it probably wouldn’t work well, and you may need to remineralize. However I just heard back from a customer who lives in a soft-water area in Tacoma, Washington. Before he purchased his water ionizer, I remember telling him that he may end up needing a remineralizer if he couldn’t get acceptable pH levels of water ionization with his Tacoma source water being so soft. But suggested he get the water ionizer and test it…then if it wasn’t ionizing well enough he could order the remineralizer.

He got his Melody water ionizer yesterday and tested it. He’s very happy with the Melody’s ability to ionize his Tacoma water. Here is his quote:

“UPS delivered my Melody ionizer yesterday at 6pm. It was easy to set up with the instructional DVD and owner’s manual. My tap water is slightly acidic, but now I get alkanine water in a wide range with ease. Great service from this distributor, Alkaline Water Plus. I guess that says it all. You know that great water ionization is taking place if you are able to get a wide range of pH at various levels from your water ionizer.

I was wondering why some soft water ionizes great, like in Tacoma, and some soft water doesn’t. I think it may have to do with the actual calcium levels in the water, but I’m not sure. When I find out, I’ll let you know. In the meantime, if you live in an area with soft water, you could always just try using your water ionizer and testing it, like this customer did, and waiting till you see there’s a need before spending the extra $85. on a remineralizer.

Which is Better? The Chanson VS 70, The Tyent 7070 or the KYK Genesis 7 Plate? And Why?

A customer came to me with a question today that was sure hard to answer! So, here’s my best stab at it.

I’ve tested the Tyent and KYK, so I know they both give really good ionized water…I’ve seen testing for the Chanson VS 70 which also looks good. These all look like great water ionizers…so which is best?

In this blog post I’ve provided information and my own analysis of the different strengths and features for each water ionizer. You will have to decide which water ionizer feature is most important to you and judge for yourself which water ionizer is best.  Based on the comparisons, below, you should be able to compare the features and strengths of these water ionizers with the features you think are most important to you — and make a decision that way. They’re all close and all HIGH QALITY, though, so I really don’t think you can go wrong with whichever one you decide. Hope this helps!

Do People Get the Same Kind of Great Benefits from the Melody, Tyent, KYK, Enagic or Life Water Ionizers?

There are many different water ionizers…do they all give great benefits [similar to the other water ionizers]? The answer is, “Yes.” From my personal observation and years of experience, a water ionizer is a water ionizer. It ionizes water…and ionized water has certain health benefits for people who drink it.

Why Did I File this Post Under Hydrogen Stick?

I filed this post under Hydrogen Stick, because as soon as I tested the Waterman Portable Ionizer Pitcher and saw how well it did – instantly – I thought of the Hydrogen Stick and how poorly that did. Does this replace the need to buy a regular water ionizer? NO, NO, NO, NO……Really, NO!  This does not replace a regular water ionizer. It’s like getting a bike instead of a car. Should You Habitually Try to Sweeten Your Ionized Water or Add Things to It?

No. Ionized Water is about as close to perfect as you can get, but when you add things to it, watch out what you add. You can be transforming beautiful alkaline ionized water into acidic water…like I did in this test!

Crystal Light is a Cool-Aid type of drink mix, which my children like to add to their ionized water. I decided to test and see if this [seemingly harmless mix] did anything significant to change the quality of my ionized water…and it did! Really I was surprised by such drastic results! Having done tea and coffee experiments in the past, I suspected that there would be some significant change in the pH and ORP of the water after adding the Crystal Light. But this was far greater change [especially in the pH of the ionized water] than even I expected!

So, the lesson to learn is…learn how to love your ionized water all by itself! Some people naturally love ionized water, and with others …they need to train their taste buds, that’s all! Be careful of what you add to your ionized water, and if you do add things, do it only periodically…not all the time!
